Scorecard for a match
At Headingley, Yorkshire and Leicestershire were forced to settle for a draw in the first round of the County Championship despite England’s Harry Brook hitting a breathtaking final-day hundred not out.
Play in this Division Two match has been severely disrupted by bad weather. Brook reached the crease four balls into the fourth day of play, with play again delayed by overnight rain and a wet outfield.
Yorkshire responded to Leicestershire’s 354 with a 72-2 opening innings lead. In the first over of the day, George Hill made a mistake that allowed Brook to enter and amuse the 178 intrepid fans who had been waiting patiently for play.
The 25-year-old Brook hadn’t batted in a match since representing England in December. He chose not to play in the ongoing IPL and withdrew from the Test series in India at the beginning of the year due to the death of his grandma.
He did, however, smash 14 fours and two sixes in 69 balls in the first of five Championship matches for which he has made himself available, and Yorkshire promptly declared on 264-6 shortly before tea to improve a slow-over rate from the first innings.
County Championship: the events on day four
They were successful in doing so, as spinners Adam Lyth and Dan Moriarty breezed through 7.2 overs with Leicestershire 26-0 up in their second innings before the rain came at 4 p.m.
With Leicestershire scoring 13 points and Yorkshire scoring 12, there was no way for more play.
