Alexander-Arnold demands that Liverpool enter the title chase by “throwing the kitchen sink.”

    • Liverpool wins at Fulham, moving up to second place
    • “The rest of them are big now—five finals,” said Alexander-Arnold.

Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold scored his first goal since December in a 3-1 victory over Fulham, which maintained Liverpool in the running for the championship.

Although Manchester City is a point behind and still has a game in hand on both, Liverpool has drawn even with the top-ranked Arsenal team in terms of points. Anything less than a victory, Alexander-Arnold said, would have effectively given them too much to do.

“At this stage of the season, [if] you don’t get the outcome you want, you are out of the title race,” Alexander-Arnold declared after his brilliant free-kick broke the tie. Given that Arsenal’s victory over Wolves last night made today’s match crucial for us, it was a major one. The remaining five are now major events. Attempt to push it over the limit by hurling the kitchen sink at it.

That reasoning suggests that Liverpool might not be able to lose any more points until the last day. Alexander-Arnold stated, “To even stand a chance of being able to pick up silverware in a few weeks, we have to expect five wins from five now.”

Following Liverpool’s Europa League match against Atalanta, Jürgen Klopp made five substitutions, and his gamble paid off as Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota scored the goals that sent Liverpool home in the second half.

Being able to rotate his team, which had lost to Crystal Palace last weekend and dropped out of Europe despite winning in Bergamo, has benefited everyone, according to Klopp. It’s hard on the boys. You need to overcome this. Both the performance and the alternatives appealed to me. The squad scenario is favorable. We have to struggle through games, we need all of them, and we have the derby [against Everton on Wednesday] to concentrate on.

These boys are all really talented. The quality is amazing, but the momentum is present sometimes and not at others.
Even though there was no clear flashpoint, Fulham manager Marco Silva said that his team’s performance in the second half was “not at the same level” as it had been before halftime. However, he took issue with multiple decisions made by referee Craig Pawson. He claimed that “the referee’s performance was not up to par overall and that many of the decisions were hard to understand.”
