Reid & Hewett help GB defend World Team Cup

    • Reid and Hewett lead Great Britain’s successful defence of the World Team Cup title, showcasing exceptional teamwork and skill on the tennis court.

Great Britain defeated Spain 2-0 in Turkey to win the World Team Cup for the fourth time since 2015.

Gordon Reid, 32, defeated Daniel Caverzaschi 6-3, 6-4, to send the reigning champions off to a terrific start.

And Alfie Hewett, 26, the top-ranked player in the world for Britain, overcame a set deficit to defeat Martin de la Puente 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to seal the victory in Antalya.

After rallying from a shaky start to tie the match with the sole service hold of the second set, Hewett won eight of the next nine games to seal the win. “To get another win is a great feeling, and it’s been a really good team atmosphere,” Hewett continued.

In the opening rubber, Reid, on the other hand, broke to lead 5-3 in the first set, then rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the second to win the match in straight sets.

Hewett also gave honours to other players, Ben Bartram and Dahnon Ward, who were instrumental in the singles and doubles semifinals and group rounds.

“Ben and Dahnon played their parts, and today me and Gordon were able to bring home the title,” he stated.

Naturally, receiving our fourth World Team Cup trophy makes us very happy. Being a member of your country’s playing team is an incredible honour and one of the year’s highlights.”

After defeating Colombia 2-1 on Saturday, the British women’s team finished in fifth place; the junior team and quad team came in sixth.
