Former Indian cricket team spinner Harbhajan Singh congratulated Sarfaraz Khan for his maiden Test call-up but he also had a stern warning for the batter. Sarfaraz was added in India’s squad for the second Test match against England starting February 2 after Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul were ruled out due to injury concerns. Sarfaraz has been enjoying a brilliant run of form on the domestic circuit and he even performed well for the India ‘A’ side. Harbhajan said that Sarfaraz will have to make the most of the opportunity because once Virat Kohli returns in the side, his position may be in danger.
“Sarfaraz Khan will have to make the most of this chance because when Virat Kohli returns, someone will have to go out. So, he cannot afford to waste this opportunity. He has worked very hard and piled up a lot of runs in domestic cricket,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.
India dominated major parts of the first Test match against England but impressive performances from Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley clinched the game for the visitors. Harbhajan criticised the batting performance and pointed out that there is a lack of experience that is hurting Rohit Sharma and Co.
“India’s batting looks very weak. Rohit Sharma is the only experienced batter in the squad. After him, if you look at the stats, Ravichandran Ashwin has the most runs under his belt,” said Harbhajan.
“There is a lack of experience in this Indian batting lineup. The batting would have looked a lot stronger had Virat Kohli been there. The likes of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer have also struggled to get going lately,” Harbhajan added.(NDTV)
