Rahul Dravid shows mirror to ICC for poorly organized T20 World Cup 2024
- Rahul Dravid critiques ICC’s management of T20 World Cup 2024, urging improvements.
The Indian squad held their first practise session last week in Cantiague Park, which is approximately five miles from the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, where they will play three of their four T20 World Cup league matches, ahead of their warm-up match against Bangladesh in New York. The team administration, according to a report, wasn’t thrilled with the practice site’s amenities, though.
India’s head coach Rahul Dravid blasted the ICC for the subpar conditions at the practice venue amid significant criticism of the New York track during the Sri Lanka-South Africa match.
It’s a little weird to be training in a park, Dravid commented with a sardonic smirk before of India’s World Cup opener against Ireland on Wednesday. World Cups are usually held in huge cricket stadiums, but this one is being held in a public park.
Eight of the sixteen matches for the US leg of the T20 World Cup will take place at the temporary venue in New York. Adelaide Oval’s head curator, Damian Hough, oversaw the drop-in pitches’ preparation and assured attendees of “a product of the highest quality.” The first international match played at the location, however, was low-scoring, with only 157 runs at a run rate of 4.4 scored in 35.4 overs. With 77 runs, their lowest-ever T20I total, Sri Lanka was dismissed.
Pundits criticized the pitch for its uneven bounce and poor outfield conditions. Being aware of the excitement surrounding the Sri Lanka-South Africa game, Dravid could only hope that as the contest went on, the conditions on the field would get better.
It is amazing to think that the event will travel to a new nation. It does feel a little strange, though, because cricket isn’t a popular sport here. There might not be the usual excitement and buzz surrounding these events at first. However, I anticipate that there will be a similar amount of excitement once our games begin and more Indian supporters show there, said Dravid.
“Our professionalism, approach, and level of preparation have not altered, even though the situation may have changed. Even though the environment has changed, our objectives and the methods we’re using to get them haven’t fundamentally altered,” the statement ended.
