Ambati Rayudu, a former cricket player from India, has questioned the selection committee’s decision to leave left-handed batsman Rinku Singh off of India’s 15-man roster for the 20-over World Cup. The former hitter for CSK also claimed that, except for Ravindra Jadeja, no other batsman on the current Indian World Cup roster is comparable to Rinku Singh in terms of his ability to win a match after entering the game in the final three to four overs.
“Who in this selected Indian has been walking out in the 16th and 17th over in a t20 game in the last 2 years and playing fluently with a high strike rate and can win a game except Ravindra Jadeja? He is a big miss. Quality should come before quantity, and most importantly cricketing ability should come before likability on Instagram,” Rayudu wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Rayudu draws criticism from online users for equating Rinku with Jadeja:
The CSK batsman’s strike rate during the current IPL season was cited by some social media users as evidence that the comparison between Rinku Singh and Ravindra Jadeja irritated them. Some people even accused Rayudu of “favouritism” for placing Rinku and Jadeja in the same division.
On X, a user commented, “Apart from jadeja? His sr is 96 in T20 WC and 125 in T20 I.”
“Except for Ravindra Jadeja,” another user commented, “Here comes the favouritism which you accuse others of.”
“When was the last time Jadeja played prominent innings that helped the team in t20s?” a user questioned Jadeja’s performance in T20 cricket.
