WWE Plays Safe with Becky Lynch Win, Gunther for King of the Ring, and More Raw Takes
- WWE opts for caution with Becky Lynch’s victory, Gunther’s ascent in King of the Rings, and other notable Raw moments. Catch up on the latest developments and fan reactions from the world of professional wrestling.
WWE Raw presented its penultimate episode featuring the current roster on Monday night, with the draft rapidly approaching.
A new women’s world champion was crowned in the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, where Becky Lynch defeated Liv Morgan in a Battle Royal. But was this the right decision?
Before Imperium turned on one another, Gunther and Xavier Woods declared for the next King of the Rings event. The Ring General is the ideal candidate to be the next tournament victor, both with and without assistance.
Sheamus addressed rival and friend Drew McIntyre, stating unequivocally that the Scottish Warrior needs to change. It seems like WWE is reverting to a well-known pattern with these two individuals.
The loss of Rhea Ripley has not been properly received by Judgment Day. The Punishment took out his resentment on Andrade after Jey Uso trashed Damian Priest on the mic, potentially paving the way for El Idolo to take on Priest in the future.
Becky Lynch is perhaps the best wrestler in the WWE’s women’s division. She sets the bar higher for those around her and keeps delivering while she’s in the spotlight.
The Man was the Battle Royal’s biggest star and top performer. With Rhea Ripley’s unfortunate accident, it makes sense that she would win her eighth women’s championship.
But WWE had the choice to try any number of ladies in the organization. Liv Morgan was the champion with the pre-existing narrative and the buzz. She would have had another opportunity to establish herself as a household name.
Since her return, Nia Jax has steadily worked her way into the spotlight. She might not have been the most thrilling choice, but for a period, she would have been a good fit as the next dominant champion.
What’s even more intriguing is that Shayna Baszler, Zoey Stark, Piper Niven, Chelsea Green, and Candice LeRae could have had their careers launched by WWE.
A battle royale is the ideal occasion to take risks, but it wouldn’t even have to be a protracted reign. In those situations, anyone can win, and the shocking conclusion of the event just before the draft would have been the talk of WWE for the whole week.
Though the organization still has the opportunity to spice up the title picture by teaming Lynch with other opponents, this will set up an exciting run of matchups going forward.
The Man has the opportunity to test the entire roster, much like she did during her NXT Women’s Championship reign. She and Piper Niven are developing a growing rivalry as of Monday. Maxxine Dupri might perhaps get an opportunity to prove herself shortly.
It’s unfortunate that WWE missed out on a fantastic chance to produce an outcome that will be soon forgotten during its draft season.
In the WWE, the King of the Ring tournament has a long history. Gaining the victory elevated Randy Savage, made “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and solidified Brock Lesnar’s supremacy.
Even if the idea has lost some of its worth recently, a fresh chapter in WWE history might raise the tournament’s stature—especially if Gunther prevails.
One of the most menacing men in the WWE, The Ring General, needs a comeback victory after Sami Zayn ended his record-breaking reign for the Intercontinental Championship.
Gunther is capable of carrying the King of the Rings title all the way to a world championship contest, and he might even stop Cody Rhodes’ incredible streak.
Still, the Austrian shouldn’t abandon his “king” persona. His triumph is sufficient on its own.
Before WrestleMania 40, Drew McIntyre was perhaps the hottest star on Raw. He embraced a heel persona that gave him the freedom to confront everyone who had mistreated him.
However, the Scot might be ready to chill off after suffering a humiliating defeat at The Show of Shows.
Restarting the feud between McIntyre and Sheamus would undoubtedly push him back down the card.
Although McIntyre and The Celtic Warrior have always had a strong rapport, the relationship hasn’t changed enough to warrant further investigation at this time.
They could be able to support one another as tag team members. Sheamus and McIntyre might develop together as Sheamus takes on McIntyre’s loudmouth heel persona and aids The Scottish Warrior in regaining the World Heavyweight Championship.
But even that is dangerous since, at this point in their careers, neither man belongs in the tag team division.
It’s ideal to let this encounter be a one-time bout that ends with McIntyre winning handily and propels him back into the hunt for the title.
Although Andrade’s return to the WWE wasn’t particularly spectacular, he has swiftly established himself as a top wrestler with a strong pre-taped promo.
If The Punishment wins the World Heavyweight Championship on May 4 and defeats Backlash France, this should position him as Damian Priest’s next opponent.
Actually, Priest’s next opponents should be Andrade and Ricochet, his tag team partners for this week. These are excellent wrestlers who will put pressure on the champion to put up memorable matches and establish his authority.
It’s not time to go that far just yet, but Andrade might be the man in the future to hold a WWE global title.
For months to come, this may act as a tease and keep Priest’s title fights interesting.
