WWE’s The Rock Reveals Workout Regimen, Schedule for MMA Training Camp for New Movie
- Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, a Hollywood actor and WWE veteran, gave fans a peek on Tuesday into his training for the upcoming film about UFC pioneer Mark Kerr.
The Rock detailed his daily training routine in an Instagram video, saying that he usually begins with some intense cardio, then moves on to weight training and more cardio, and lastly learns the ins and outs of mixed martial arts in the cage.
On Monday, The Rock also shared pictures from a recent workout:
The Rock said he is “having a f–king blast” and is “mirroring the life of an MMA fighter” through his training camp. He thanked UFC president Dana White and current and past UFC fighters Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier, and Jorge Masvidal for their guidance.
The Rock was in flawless shape after competing at WrestleMania 40 last month, but he is receiving a crash education in mixed martial arts (MMA) training, as pro wrestling and MMA are two very different sports.
The Smashing Machine, Kerr’s monicker, is the title of the film, as revealed by The Rock. Additionally, he stated that filming will start “in a couple of weeks.”
Kerr, 55, emerged as one of the UFC’s initial big stars after taking home the heavyweight titles from UFC 14 and UFC 15.
Prior to becoming an MMA fighter, he was a standout amateur wrestler who competed at Syracuse University and won an NCAA Division I title at 190 pounds in 1992.
The Rock was the perfect option to play Kerr in The Smashing Machine because he has a long history of supporting the UFC and mixed martial arts as a whole, in addition to his enormous star power.
