After defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to win the Barcelona Open, Casper Ruud claimed his first championship of 2024.
Third seed from Norway Ruud won his greatest career title, defeating the fifth-seeded Greek 7-5, 6-3.
The 25-year-old, who now holds the sixth-best ranking in the world, has never before won an ATP 500-ranked event.
“For me, it means a lot, this is my biggest title that I ever won,” Ruud stated.
It’s something I’ve been pursuing for quite some time. Neither a 500 nor a 1000 have ever been mine. I’ve attended a couple finals, but I was never quite there.”
The 25-year-old Tsitsipas broke Ruud early on, but the three-time Grand Slam runner-up bounced back in the sixth game and converted one of two set chances at 6-5.
After Tsitsipas sent a forehand into the net to give away a break, he took a 4-1 lead in the second set and won in 91 minutes, ending the Greek’s 10-match winning run.
Additionally, Ruud’s loss to Tsitsipas in the Monte Carlo Open final previous week was avenged with this victory.

At the clay-court ATP 250 event, fourth seed and home favorite Struff defeated the third seed 7-5, 6-3, to win his first-ever ATP Tour championship.
