Monday night at the T-Mobile Centre in Kansas City, Missouri, the 2024 WWE draft got underway with Raw and SmackDown choosing the Superstars who will aid in defining their respective brands for the upcoming year.
Bobby Lashley, The Judgement Day, Drew McIntyre, and CM Punk were among the eligible Superstars for Monday’s selections.
When Logan Paul made his first appearance since WrestleMania 40, who landed where, and how did world heavyweight champion Damian Priest manage to stop the momentum of top contender Jey Uso just days before Backlash in Lyon, France?
This recap of a jam-packed episode from April 29 will tell you.
Pre-announced for the concert on Monday were:
The subsequent story of United States champion Logan Paul’s return in the 2024 WWE draft
Finn Bálor, JD McDonagh, and Damian Priest versus Jey Uso, Andrade, and Ricochet
Intercontinental Title Match: “Big” Bronson Reed vs. Sami Zayn (c)
World heavyweight champion Damian Priest and The Judgement Day welcomed Logan Paul, IShowSpeed, and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to the arena.
In other news, Becky Lynch, the recently crowned world champion for women, kicked off the event by rehashing her victory from a week prior and declaring her intention to take on the greatest.
Liv Morgan cut in, and then Nia Jax, the most recent SmackDown draftee, did the same.
After some back-and-forth, Jax promised to take one of the women out on her route to the blue brand. Commentator Michael Cole then suggested that Raw general manager Adam Pearce would need to pause the draft in order to officially announce the Jax-Morgan match.
With three women who have made history sharing the ring for the final time before a bout that might have a significant impact on the Raw women’s division, this was a great way to launch Raw.
Highlights and Key Learnings
WWE scored a major coup by getting the biggest NFL star to appear on Raw. It features his name and likeness on the programme, which is always advantageous regardless of how well-known the product is already on a global scale.
Lynch claimed that if it weren’t for Morgan’s actions towards Rhea Ripley and her own actions against Morgan a week prior, she would not be the current women’s world champion. The Man had said a vicious line about how she had defeated Morgan to win the title in the main event of the previous week.
Night 2: WWE Draft Picks for the First Round
Imperium (Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser) in raw form
SmackDown: Cargill Jade
Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Asuka, Iyo Sky, and Kairi Sane) in raw form
Kevin Owens, SmackDown:
When Gunther formally declared his intention to compete in the King of the Ring event a week ago, defending champion Xavier Woods promptly entered the fray. They competed in a singles match on Monday to begin the in-ring portion of the show.
Woods withstood The Ring General’s brutal strikes with resilience and toughness. Gunther stopped his late comeback attempt by blocking a kick attempt and knocking him down with another chop. Even though Kofi Kingston was taunting Woods to give up, he persisted in believing he could battle his way out of the submission. He applied a Boston Crab.
However, he didn’t, and the Austrian won via tap-out.
This was an excellent bout, highlighted by Gunther’s powerful portrayal of removing the King of the Ring’s crown and placing it on his own head. His star in the WWE will rise in proportion to how much more of that we extract from him.
